Asian equities were up after Wall street rose, MSCI's broadest index advanced 0.5 percent, Japan's Nikkei rose 0.4 percent.
The focus is to the European Central Bank today's meeting, with investors looking for clarity from President Mario Draghi on the outlook for the ECB’s bond-buying program.
The euro stood almost flat at $1.1926 ahead of the policy meeting, maintaining its uptrend since the start of this year. The Canadian dollar held firm following 1.2 percent gains on Wednesday after the Bank of Canada unexpectedly raised interest rates. The Canadian dollar traded way above Wednesday’s high of C$1.2140 per U.S. dollar, which was its highest since the last two years.
